Common complaint about log homes = Cold Air Coming In?

Common complaint about log homes = Cold Air Coming In?

Is your cabin cold during the winter months? While your cabin is going up, see how the following “joints” are being caulked and sealed. Here below are places where cold and hot air can infiltrate your home and make life uncomfortable, not to mention more expensive to heat and cool.

Make sure the prime air infiltration places are well caulked during construction. They are ...

Around Doors & Windows

Floor-Wall intersections

Wall-roof intersections

Roof ridge beam

Vents

Exhaust fans

Plumbing lines coming up into and through the 1st floor

Corners in some log homes = stuff in sponge rope and then caulk

This is much easier to “do it right” during construction than after you have moved in. Preparation and Prevention is the key.

Last word ... I spend some time on the log home Facebook sights so I do not find similar comments about conventional homes. I suspect the problems are similar.
